Notes From The Atelier: Overcoming Overconsumption

Whether you are a business or a consumer, sales like Black Friday are excellent at creating a sense of FOMO (the Fear of Missing Out). But with the speed at which trends overturn, the rush placed on creativity, and the responsibility to sustainability we all have, this period has sparked our Atelier to rethink the impact of this fleeting pressure to buy and to sell.

We want to lift this pressure to buy for price and not product, to encourage considered shopping and do better towards our planet. We create investment pieces, priced to reflect every element that goes in to creating it. Made to be reworn, passed down and restyled, we do not wish to rush the creative process and in turn rush your purchase of our pieces.

This is also why styles from our previous collections, some which date back years, remain available in our portfolio. Saying farewell to certain styles is an organic process, whether the fabric is no longer available or the piece no longer aligns with our brand. With each design we carefully produce by hand from sketch, to pattern, to make, designed to be truly versatile and timeless – these are pieces to be appreciated for years, not mere months.

Sales often mark the dismissal of collections, to purge stock at low cost for the customer, losing both financial and in turn seasonal value. We wish to stray from this common practise and encourage a much more longterm attitude towards this industry. We hope our small but ever-mighty corner of it sparks inspiration in you to make similar, and unassumingly impactful, changes in your buying habits.

This is just one small part in our mission to grow our sustainable impact, and we hope to continue to share and encourage this sensibility.
